About AskPacific

Who staffs this service?

Our service is staffed by librarians at the University of the Pacific’s Stockton campus. We work from the Reference Desk in the Information Commons at the Main Library where we also provide assistance in person and over the phone. Since there may be other folks we’re assisting when you contact us, there may, on occasion, be slight delays in responding to your IM or chat request, but we make every effort to provide timely, responsive service to all patrons.

How does AskPacific work?

You can contact us any time you have a research or library-related question, either online via IM or chat, on your home or cell phone, by email, or just by coming to our reference desks at the Main Library or the Health Sciences Branch.

Who can use AskPacific?

AskPacific IM and chat reference are primarily intended as services for the current Pacific community. If you are not a current affiliate, we're happy to refer you to a service that might be more appropriate.

Do you save the transcripts?

We regularly purge our archives of all old transcripts, though we do review these for evaluation and research purposes. See our Privacy Policy for more details.

What is IM and how does it work?

IM stands for "Instant Message," and refers to products like AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) which can be used to have a live conversation with a Pacific librarian. To contact us, send a message from your IM software to our screen name (AskPacific)

We have accounts on all the major IM service providers: AOL Instant Messenger, Google Talk, Yahoo! Messenger and MSN Messenger -- all with the same screen name, AskPacific.

Add us to your Buddy List now!

If you don’t have an IM account, feel free to contact us via the AskPacific Meebo chat box on our main Reference page.
