The goal of the Circulation Department is to provide access to the library's collections and resources, and manage those collections. Access is provided through the main Circulation/Reserve Desk and the Health Sciences Branch, through in-house use of materials, and other services such as providing reproducing equipment for print and non-print materials.
Staff members use the integrated Aleph library computer system to circulate items, assist patrons in operating photocopy, microfilm/fiche and audiovisual equipment and maintain that equipment. They circulate laptops and wireless cards, sell copy and printing VendCards, diskettes, CD-ROMs and special borrower cards, reshelve books, newspapers, magazines and A/V materials, process electronic and print reserves, retrieve items from the remote storage facility, assign group study rooms, answer and route calls on the Library's main phone line, as well as answer informational and directional questions.

The Information Commons is staffed
by technology assistants who provide computer and technology support for email,
software applications, printing, scanning, etc. Technology assistance is available
in the Information Commons all the hours the library is open. (Computers and
other technology resources are reserved for University students, faculty and
staff.) For more information about the Information Commons, please visit http://library.pacific.edu/ic/

Located in the School of Pharmacy Building on the university’s North Campus, the Health Sciences Branch library provides access to journals, books, and electronic resources in the field of the health sciences, with a focus on materials in pharmacy, physical therapy and dental hygiene. The new Health Sciences Library features group study rooms, a print center and improved quiet areas. A donation from the Rite Aid Corporation allowed the addition of an Information Commons modeled on the one in the Main Library. Specialized resources and services, including instruction, are available for students and faculty.

The Holt-Atherton Special Collections Department is the special collections unit of the University Library. The mission of Special Collections is to collect, preserve, and provide access to manuscript collections, a specialized book collection, and the university archives for students and faculty of the University of the Pacific and the general public. The collection development policy for the manuscript and book collections focuses on Western Americana with an emphasis on California history and the northern San Joaquin Valley.

The Library Dean's Office is the administrative center of the Library, and
is a main point of contact for many visitors to the library. The

The Reference/Information Desk, located in the center of the Information
Commons, is your first stop for research assistance. Librarians
are available to help you find the information you need and can be contacted via phone, email, instant message or chat, and in-person. Learn how to search
the library's collections and gain access to a wide array of electronic and
Internet-accessible information resources including full-text journal articles.
The library offers many opportunities for students to learn how to conduct research. Students may make appointments with individual librarians for one-on-one assistance. Faculty may request instructional sessions in our wired, hands-on classroom. Call the Reference Desk at 209.946.2433 to schedule a tour, class session, or presentation.

Technical Services, located on the basement level of the Library, is the behind-the-scenes department of the Library. We are responsible for coordinating the ordering, receiving, processing, cataloging, linking, and repairing of print and electronic materials for both the Main Library and the Health Sciences Branch. Technical Services is also the place that graduate students turn in their theses and dissertations. The Interlibrary Loan Unit handles the borrowing and lending of materials from and to other libraries. Even though you may not see us in action when you visit the Library, rest assured that our hard work behind the scenes helps you find those items you are looking for in the online catalog and on the shelves. Please contact us if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
