Pacific Interlibrary Loan

ILLiad is the electronic system Pacific Library uses to process interlibrary loan requests. Use this system to request an item that is not owned by the Library from another institution.

Please check the library’s online catalog PacifiCat first to make sure we do not already own the item before you request it through ILLiad!

This system replaces the old web/email form, as well as the request cards.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will it take?

Once the item is requested, the average turn-around-time is two weeks. Submitting an ILL request does not guarantee that the item will be obtained. Many libraries are not willing to lend reference books, rare books, videos, recently published books, or music CDs. Also, some requests may not be filled in a timely manner. You will be notified by email (unless indicated otherwise) when the item arrives.

Requests submitted after 2 p.m. will be considered the next working day, and requests are not processed on weekends.

What will it cost me?

The Library does not charge Pacific patrons for books. For journal articles, a photocopy fee of $1.00 will be charged to Pacific students.

  • The Library also offers a Rush/FAX delivery service for a $3 charge to Pacific patrons per journal article costing $38 or less. If the journal article is over $38, the patron will be notified and asked to pay the difference.

How long can I use the item?

Items received as a photocopy are usually yours to keep. The loan period for books and other items may vary, but is often about two weeks. Loan periods are determined by the lending libraries. Many lending libraries will allow for renewals. Please request a renewal one to two days before the due date. An overdue fee of $0.50 per item per day will be charged to Pacific students, faculty, and staff.

How is Pacific Interlibrary Loan better than traditional ILL systems?

  • You will find it easier to submit your interlibrary loan requests. With Pacific Interlibrary Loan, you enter your name, address, and other personal information into the system only once, at the time of your first request.
  • You can get information about the status of your request through the web at any time from any location without having to call the ILL Department.
  • Library personnel are able to serve you better because all data about your request and its handling is stored in a searchable database. We are able to respond quickly to your inquiries about your request. We are also able to gather statistical information about the performance of the libraries that lend to us, enabling us to make better decisions when choosing a lender to supply an item.

Why do I need a PacificNet ID and password to use Pacific Interlibrary Loan?

Your PacificNet ID and password allows us to give you secure access to information about your interlibrary loan requests.

  • If you do not know your PacificNetID please visit Inside Pacific to look it up. If you need to reset your PacificNetID password please use the University Locksmith site.

What Web browser should I use?

We recommend Mozilla Firefox for both Windows and Mac, or Safari for Mac. Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6.0 or greater for Windows works as well.

Where do I pick up my material when it arrives at the Library

When you first log into Pacific Interlibrary Loan you will be asked which location you would like your materials delivered to when they arrive. You are given a choice of Main Library, Health Sciences Library, or mailing the item.

  • Main Library – these items will be available for pick-up at the Circulation Desk.
  • Health Sciences Library (HSB) – these items will be delivered to HSB in the late afternoon of the day they arrive (or the next day’s afternoon if received after 3pm). Since these items are delivered by courier, there may be a slight delay in when they would be available for pick-up. As with the Main Branch, the materials will be held at HSB’s Circulation Desk.
  • Mail – These materials will be mailed to the address given in your registration form for a charge of $5 per mailing. Articles are yours to keep, but books will need to be returned to the Library by the due date.

Whom do I contact if I have problems with or questions about Pacific Interlibrary Loan?
