In addition to the databases listed in the general Music Subject Guide, students doing research in music therapy should also search in one or more of these databases:

  • PsycINFO - Provides access to international literature in psychology and related disciplines. Unrivaled in its depth of psychological coverage and respected worldwide for its high quality, the database is enriched with literature from an array of disciplines related to psychology such as psychiatry, education, business, medicine, nursing, pharmacology, law, linguistics, and social work.  Pacific users only.
  • ERIC - The ERIC (Educational Resources Information Center) database is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education to provide extensive access to educational-related literature. The ERIC database corresponds to two printed journals: Resources in Education (RIE) and Current Index to Journals in Education (CIJE).  Pacific users only.
  • Education Full-Text - Education Full Text brings you comprehensive coverage of an international range of English-language periodicals, monographs and yearbooks. Includes the full text of hundreds of journals, and indexes many more.  Pacific users only.
  • PubMed - A publicly available search engine from the National Institutes of Health covering health and medical information, including music therapy.
  • Health Source: Nursing (EBSCO) - This resource provides more than 580 scholarly full text journals focusing on many medical disciplines. Coverage of nursing and allied health is particularly strong, including full text from several nursing publications.  Pacific users only.
  • Alt-HealthWatch (EBSCO) - Alt-HealthWatch is a full-text database of periodicals, peer-reviewed journals, academic and professional publications, magazines, consumer newsletters and newspapers, research reports, and association newsletters focused on complementary, alternative and integrated approaches to health care.  Pacific users only.

Web Sites

Subject Searching in Pacificat

Search by subject to find items about a specific topic when you don't have a specific author or title.  Subject searching is also useful when browsing for music for specific instruments, ensembles, or genres (e.g. sonatas, symphonies, operas, etc.) when the composer or title is not known.

1. To find items in the library, go to PacifiCat, and select Advanced Searches .
2. Select the Format and/or Material Type you are looking for.
3. Under Field to Search: choose Subject .
4. Under Words adjacent? click Yes.
5. Enter search term(s) from the following list in the first blank box:
