The library has a number of reference books of potential use for research in this area. For example:
Using PacifiCat, search by combining keywords such as “crime and justice” or “California and capital punishment.”
The same keywords you used to search for books may be too broad or inclusive when searching for journal articles, and as a result you may retrieve too many articles or items that appear irrelevant to your topic. Try to think of synonyms or related terms that more significantly describe your topic. For example, crime is a broad term. A better keyword might be or murder or homicide or rape or white collar. Punishment is also a broad term. Try instead terms such as capital punishment. Torture or war crimes are keywords in current news. Searching with the “correct” keywords is an important step in finding good articles.
